Left flat rather than carved, the top allows the piece to be used as either a stool or small side table.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe top is made from English Walnut reclaimed from standing dead trees at the Coop family farm in Port Levy, Banks Peninsula, from plantings dating to around 1860. Originally grown as a walnut grove and pruned for nut production, the trees developed areas of crotch and quilt figure through the timber. This top captures the full crotch figure, formed where the tree divided as it grew, creating a pronounced pattern through the grain. Only one stool top can generally be cut from each slab to capture this complete figure.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe turned legs are made from Black Walnut sourced from early plantings at Orton Bradley Park, Charteris Bay.
